Star Night Horizon by MrNiceGuy
Description
A night horizon I've made using photorealistic textures. It features many stars, a big realistic moon and moving, transparent clouds. Keep in mind that this can't be realisticly used in a big city, since with the amount of light a city emmits, stars far away won't appear, since their light becomes weak over such long distances that they completely disappear when reaching a big city's lights, so rather use this for deserted places and such, it works great for deserts and arctic environment! Instructions are in the Readme.

Original: This is one of, if not the only, night sky horizon. And certainly the best one. The stars are very original, I don't remember seeing any horizons with stars, only the moon. Quality: The dome style horizon had no holes. The textures were pefectly placed, awesome! It's only a horizon, witch maks it hard to give a long quality discription. Useable: Only for night levels, they're arnt many night levels, the typical tr level is evening or daylight. But for a night level this could deffinetly be used. It's not a 10 in useability for night levels because the sky is so dark, the level whould have to be very dark to make it match the darkness of the horizon and sky. Otherwise it'd look like the level was glowing. It also can't be used in large citys, as said in the discription. But for ouside Lara's house, or night in the jungel or any of those styled levels, this could be used and look very good in the level. I want to give it an 8 1/2, but that's not possible... So I'll round it. Custom textures: The moon looks really good, and the little stars seem to twinkel, it's great. and the textures fit wonderfuly together. There arn't many textures, but the few that are there are incredible!! Custom meshes: I love the way the new horizon was made. It's like a big dome. It was shaped very good, and it looks great! Very well made. :) I've been consitering using this for my second RE level, but I'm not sure, I'll have to see how it looks in that level when it's built. ;)

originality 9: there are some night horizons, some have even stars. But this one has the nicest moon. quality 10: the mesh has no problems and a different shape than the other horizons, the textures are nice and the moving clouds look very cool in game. usability 9: It can't be used in cities, but many levels play outside, so it's a good addition to a night level. textures 10: the moon-texture was very beautiful and realistic. They are a bit too big, but else you can't see so many detailes. mesh 10: I saw a similar horizon, the mesh had the shape of a ball, but this one is better. You don't need the whole ball, the half of it is enough and makes the wad smaller. The mesh had no bugs.

As used in The Mutant's Demise, and if you read the reviews for the level you'll see that this night sky was greatly appreciated by everyone who played it. With the cloud layer activated as included with the download, this makes for an incredibly atmospheric night sky. The only drawback was the height of the horizon. You can't really use this one for panoramic all round views if you use the cloud layer. But it is perfect for temple style settings where you can see the sky through ceilings. You won't be disappointed with this one. (I take back what I said about the panoramic all round views - that only applies if you use the cloud layers. If the horizon is used without clouds, it's fine for all round views.) GM Edited by GeorgeMaciver Edited by GeorgeMaciver

I really liked this one. It was very realistic. I believe this is the best night-time horizon I have ever seen. Original (9): I don't believe I've seen many night-time star horizons. Any I have seen were rather poorly done. Quality (10): I saw no holes in the mesh, and it is set up very nicely so that the part where the moon is textured remains square so as not to stretch it. I don't know what to say about the clouds. They were very faint and only visible off to the side. It almost seems as though setting them up is more work than its worth; but it does add a little to the sky. Useable (8): As the author himself said, this horizon has limited uses, but most horizons do anyway; don't they? Textures (10): WOW! These stars are very detailed with very good placement on the mesh. The only thing that looked a little odd was the moon. I think it looks a little big... almost like it is falling from the sky. But maybe that is just becuase in the north I only ever see a small moon. Meshes (9): A nine because it seems as though he created this himself. Not a ten, though, because the mesh doesn't seem to hard to make... then again, it's only an horizon. Great work! Outstanding! I'll definetely be using this whenever I need a night-time horizon. Jon
