Special LARA item
This outfit uses customized offset values (i.e. skeleton). Prior to Tomb Editor 1.7.2, the LARA and LARA_SKIN objects needed to have separate matching skeletons. This is no longer necessary. Lara's skeleton is dictated solely by the LARA_SKIN object when compling a level with TE 1.7.2+.
If you have upgraded to TE 1.7.2 or higher, ignore the rest of this section. If you are using TE 1.7.1, please follow the instructions below.
For users of Tomb Editor 1.7.1 or older, you must include matching LARA and LARA_SKIN objects, or else Lara will have strange, alien like proportions in-game. "LARAfix.wad2" includes the necessary LARA object needed. Either copy the contents of LARAfix.wad2 into your project WAD with WadTool, or simply load the WAD directly into your TE project.
If your project has no custom animations, you can simply copy the LARA object to your project. However, if you are utilizing custom animations, you must batch export your personal LARA animations and import them over the included LARA object.
To batch export/import animations:
- Open WadTool.
- Load the wad containing your customized LARA object in the Destination panel.
- Expand the Moveables list, then right-click on LARA, then click "Edit animations..."
- The Animation Editor opens. From the menu bar, click "Animations > Batch > Export all..."
- Select a folder to save the animations to. You may want to create a new folder.
- Wait until a message in the bottom right corner of the preview window tells you the animations were exported successfully. Then close the Animation Editor.
- Back in the main WadTool window, load "LARAfix.wad2" in the Destination panel.
- Open the LARA object in the Animation Editor, then from the menu bar, click "Animations > Batch > Import..." and select the folder you saved the animations to.
- Wait for the 'successful' message to appear, then close the Animation Editor. Choose "Yes" when WadTool asks if you want to save the changes.
- From the main WadTool window, save your Wad2. Done!
Installation tips
- When using the single-weapon Lite outfit, don't forget to disable Lara's left gun. It is only hidden in this outfit, not deactivated. This can be achieved via TRNG scripting, FLEP patch, or (for the 2 of you out there) TREP patch/scripting.
- If you use an alternate hairstyle as well as a recolor, you'll need to apply the recolor texture to both the primary wad and hair only wad. The best practice is to create a new wad for your customized outfit, rather than editing multiple existing wads.
- Lara's braid looks okay out of the box, but you can perfect the positioning by using these values in conjunction with the "Lara's Ponytail Position Changer" FLEP/TREP patch: X=0, Y=-4, Z=-44.
Applying different hairstyles
To use one of the alternative hair options, just copy the respective hair-only wad over the top of the primary outfit wad. Full instructions are as follows, using the full gear outfit and TR1 bun hair as an example:
- In WadTool, load "Full Jacket+Jeans.wad2" (or your project wad containing the outfit) in the destination panel.
- Load "Full TR1 Bun.wad2" (located in the "Alternate hair for Full" folder) in the source panel.
- Copy all the contents from the source panel to the desination panel.
- Save and exit.
Alternatively, you can add both wads (the primary outfit and hair-only wad) to your project in Tomb Editor, with the hair-only wad placed above the primary outfit wad. However, please note that during testing I occasionally encoutered a glitchy black braid appearing with the bun hair when using this method. If this happens, just merge the bun hair and primary outfit into a single wad.
Applying recolors
Five recolors options are available for both outfit styles (full and lite).
To apply a recolor:
- Open WadTool and load whichever variant of the outfit you've chosen (or your project wad containing the outfit) as the destination file.
- Click the arrow next to "Moveables" to expand the list. Right-click on LARA_SKIN and choose "Edit meshes..."
- From the Mesh Editor, locate the texturing panel on the right side of the window. Click the dropdown arrow and select "full_Core's TRAE.png" (or "lite_Core's TRAE.png"). Then click the circular arrows icon to the right.
- Find the recolor you want to apply (e.g. "full_Simple Light.png") and double-click it. (Files are in the "Recolors" folder)
- WadTool will warn you about making this change. Click "Yes" to continue.
- Click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner of the Mesh Editor to close and save changes.
- From the main WadTool window, save your Wad2.
NOTE: After clicking yes, you may notice the textures in mesh preview window have changed, but the image file in the texturing panel stays the same. Don't worry, the texture file has updated. Reopening the Mesh Editor will show the updated texture file.
