Please include this line in your readme: Winter Heavy DS outfit by vandersweater. You may modify and re-release this outfit if you wish, but you must credit me in your readme for my original work. Thank you!
The braid textures used in this outfit were created by Horus-Goddess. I can't remember the specific outfit they came from, but I believe they're the same textures featured in her Classics: TR3 (2012 UPDATE) outfit line. Thank you, Horus!
Lara's "relaxed" hand mesh is my creation, but Sponge's Classic TR4 Outfit Package was used as close reference for the proportions. Thank you, Sponge!
Lara's "gripping" hand mesh (i.e. those used while she's holding weapons) was created by Po Yu and modified by myself. The original mesh was adapted from his Tomb Raider II&III Jungle Outfit Remake. My thanks to Po Yu!
And finally, I adapted this outfit from Tomb Raider Underworld for Nintendo DS, so massive credit to the folks at (now defunct) Santa Cruz games. Textures were taken directly from TRU for DS with some portions repainted by myself. Lara's jacket collar and backpack meshes come directly from TRU, in addition to all the new weapons. Other meshes are from my previous outfits, and/or Core Design.
Important installation instructions
You must use the included LARA object in your level for Lara to appear correctly in-game. This outfit uses customized mesh offsets, meaning the LARA object is arranged differently than the standard TR4 skin.
You probably don't want to use this LARA object if you are using custom animations. In this case, you have two options: Batch export your personal LARA animations and import them over the included LARA object (easiest), OR manually readjust the offsets of your personal LARA object (harder).
To batch export/import animations (easy method):
- Open the Wad containing your personal LARA object in WadTool.
- Right-click on the LARA item and choose "Edit animations..."
- From the menu bar, choose "Animations > Batch > Export all..."
- Select a folder to export the animations to. You may want to create a new folder.
- Wait a moment until you see a message in the bottom right corner of the preview window that says your animations were exported successfully.
- Close the Animation Editor and load "WinterHeavy_DS.wad2" as the destination file from the main WadTool window.
- Follow the same steps you performed to batch export animations, but this time choose "Import" from the menu and select the folder you saved your animations to.
- Again, wait for the "successful" information message and then close the Animation Editor. Choose "Yes" when WadTool asks if you want to save the changes.
- From the main WadTool window, save your Wad2. Done!
To manually readjust offsets (harder method):
- Open the Wad containing your personal LARA object in WadTool.
- Right-click on the LARA item and choose "Edit skeleton..."
- The Skeleton Editor window appears. Each of Lara's meshes are listed in a panel on the right. At the bottom of this panel, there is a section titled "Current mesh." The line below this says "Pivots:" followed by three boxes with X, Y, Z values.
- You must select Lara's meshes from the list one by one and edit the XYZ values to match the numbers in this table:
- When finished, click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner to save and close the Skeleton Editor.
- Lastly, save your Wad2 from the main WadTool window.
BODY PART | MESH | X | Y | Z |
---|---|---|---|---|
Pelvis | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Left thigh | 1 | -42 | -20 | +2 |
Left shin | 2 | +9 | -187 | +3 |
Left foot | 3 | 0 | -206 | -14 |
Right thigh | 4 | +42 | -20 | +2 |
Right shin | 5 | -9 | -187 | +3 |
Right foot | 6 | 0 | -206 | -14 |
Torso | 7 | 0 | +49 | +11 |
Right upper arm | 8 | +58 | +142 | -12 |
Right forearm | 9 | +3 | -98 | -2 |
Right hand | 10 | +3 | -104 | 0 |
Left upper arm | 11 | -58 | +142 | -12 |
Left forearm | 12 | -3 | -98 | -2 |
Left hand | 13 | -3 | -104 | 0 |
Head | 14 | 0 | +198 | -15 |
Batch exporting/importing is undoubtedly faster and easier, but if you intend to edit this outfit then having the offset chart on-hand is quite useful.
Notes
This is the most comprehensive outfit package I've made to date, and I hope you enjoy it! Every possible "swap hand" is included (torch, crowbar, waterskin, etc) in addition to every standard weapon.
TRU for DS only includes four guns (pistol, uzi, shotgun and rifle) so I included the TR1 magnum to fill the revolver slot. In the future I plan to add the TR2 grenade gun as well. I would have included it to boot but I was a) eager to release and b) really sick of making guns. The rifle is placed in the crossbow slot and behaves like the TRC HK Gun in rapid mode out of the box. You could use the HK Gun FLEP patch to expand its functionality, but be aware that not all the necessary animations needed to take advantage of the patch are included.
The included crossbow.wav file is a rifle gunshot sound that you can use to replace the standard crossbow firing sound. The new sound is from TR2013, courtesy of Kubsy's TR 2013 SFX part 1 package. Thanks to Kubsy for providing the ripped sounds!
I made an effort to reduce the amount of texinfos used in this package to keep it optimized. There might be some improvements I can make in the future, but at 1262 total texinfos I don't think it's too bad!
The positioning of the weapons is optimized for a uniform appearance in the inventory. The caveat with this is that as pickup items, the positioning for some items is a little funny, most notably the rifle. It was a trade off, but at least the inventory items look really sharp!
